Mychal Bell released yesterday - Jena 6

Posted on 12:02 by Unknown
From CNN

Mychal Bell, a black teenager accused of beating a white classmate and who was the last of the “Jena 6″ behind bars, was released from custody Thursday after a juvenile court judge set his bail at $45,000.

Bell’s release followed an announcement from LaSalle Parish District Attorney Reed Walters, who said he would not appeal a higher court’s decision moving Bell’s case to juvenile court.

Wearing a blue striped golf shirt and jeans, Bell walked out of the LaSalle Parish courthouse a week after an estimated 15,000-plus demonstrators marched through Jena — a town of about 3,000 — to protest local authorities’ handling of the teens’ case.

“We do not condone violence of any kind, but we ask that people be given a fair and even chance at the bar of justice,” the Rev. Al Sharpton said outside the courthouse.

“Tonight, Mychal can go home, but Mychal is not out of the juvenile process. He goes home because a lot of people left their home and stood up for him,” he said.

This really shows how uniting as one, we can accomplish anything.

Michael Vick Question...

Posted on 15:27 by Unknown
What does drug testing and being under house arrest have to do with dog fighting??? Am I the only one asking this??

---

SUSSEX, Virginia (CNN)
-- Suspended NFL quarterback Michael Vick must adhere to tightened restrictions after he tested positive for marijuana use, a federal judge said Wednesday.

Vick tested positive for the drug on September 13, a court document from the Eastern District of Virginia shows.

As a result, U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson ordered Vick to "submit to any method of testing required by the pretrial services officer or the supervising officer for determining whether the defendant is using a prohibited substance."

Those methods could include random drug testing, a remote alcohol testing system "and/or any form of prohibited substance screening or testing," the order said.

Vick, 27, must participate in substance abuse therapy and mental health counseling "if deemed advisable by the pretrial services officer or supervising officer" at his own expense, the order said.

Vick was also ordered to stay home between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., "or as directed by the pretrial services officer or supervising officer," the order said. He is to be electronically monitored during that time.

The conditions are to apply until Vick's sentencing, which is set for December 10.

Microsoft, others in make billion dollar offer for Facebook

Posted on 07:51 by Unknown
23 year old Mark Zuckerberg is going to be one very very RICH guy, goddam, what was I doing when I was 23????

Software firm Microsoft and internet search engine Google are in discussions over investments in Facebook that would value the internet social networking company at as much as 10 billion dollars, a New York Times online report said Tuesday. Citing sources with intimate knowledge of the talks, the New York Times said Microsoft was considering an offer of 300 to 500 million dollars for 5-per-cent ownership of Facebook.

The privately-owned Facebook is considered desirable by potential investors for its future potential, the report stated, saying that venture capital firms are also interested in investing in the company, which according to current estimates makes little profit.

Condom Fashion Show in China

Posted on 08:26 by Unknown
Funny but extremely creative...

Shout out to Nikki Jones for forwarding this to me..

Models parade in outfits made of condoms during a fashion show at the 4th China Reproductive Health New Technologies & Products Expo in Beijing July 11, 2007.

Condoms of all shapes and sizes were used to make dresses, hats and even lollipops. Models fought through extravagant soap bubble special effects to show off tight-fitting wedding gowns, scaly-looking evening dresses, outrageous bikinis and other garments made entirely of condoms.

The show was held at the Fourth China Reproductive Health New Technologies and Products Expo and organized by China's largest condom manufacturer, Guilin Latex Factory, to promote the use of condoms in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It also marked World Population Day, organized annually by the U.N. Population Fund.

Random Post: Notting Hill Carnival

Posted on 08:28 by Unknown

Ok, totally random post today, I head Sean Kingston’s new song yesterday and it totally reminded me of the Notting Hill Carnival, which is the one event that takes place in London that I really really miss and really need to make the effort to make sure I’m home for the next one. I’ve been literally every year since I was 17 years old, and always had a dan-dooley time.. Memories, the stories I could tell ya...

Below is a video of highlights of this years event, I really think it captures the true essence of the spirit of Carnival..

For those that don’t know:

Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event which takes place in Notting Hill, London, England each August, over two days (Sunday and the following Bank Holiday).

It has continuously taken place on the streets of Notting Hill since 1965. The carnival has attracted up to 2 million people in the past, putting it the second largest street festival in the world, after Rio.

Luenell drops in at the TV Guide Post-Emmy Party and has a blast

Posted on 08:46 by Unknown
The cute comic from Borat made a big impression with party guests that included Eve LaRue, Wayne Brady, Niecy Nash, Ananda Lewis and her former co-star Ken Davitian from Borat. This was "the" event of the night as TV illustrious stars were dressed to the hilt. Kanye West and John Legend were the big named performers.

Since so many people wanted to be photographed with Luenell, we've got exclusive cool pix for our readers.

This was Luenell's first "official" Emmy party and she had a blast. Later papparazzos chased her down the street while she was enroute to another party with her signficant other DeMarco Allen trying to take her photo just like they do for Britney Spears.

Cities cracking down on saggy pants

Posted on 07:41 by Unknown

Something I spotted on Yahoo News..

TRENTON, N.J. - It's a fashion that started in prison, and now the saggy pants craze has come full circle — low-slung street strutting in some cities may soon mean run-ins with the law, including a stint in jail.

Proposals to ban saggy pants are starting to ride up in several places. At the extreme end, wearing pants low enough to show boxers or bare buttocks in one small Louisiana town means six months in jail and a $500 fine. A crackdown also is being pushed in Atlanta. And in Trenton, getting caught with your pants down may soon result in not only a fine, but a city worker assessing where your life is headed.

"Are they employed? Do they have a high school diploma? It's a wonderful way to redirect at that point," said Trenton Councilwoman Annette Lartigue, who is drafting a law to outlaw saggy pants. "The message is clear: We don't want to see your backside."

"In Atlanta, we see this as racial profiling," said Benetta Standly, statewide organizer for the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia. "It's going to target African-American male youths. There's a fear with people associating the way you dress with crimes being committed."

50 on Britney - He's a sweetheart really....

Posted on 09:31 by Unknown
Ok, so I do have a new found respect for 50 re his comments on Britney right after her "performance" at the VMA's.

HOST: What did you think of Britney's performance?

50 CENT:
Good, the production was good..

LOL, what a tactful young gentleman..
Anyhoo, check out the IOL story below where 50 defends Brit re Kanye's rant, too funny.

----
50 Cent defends Britney against Kanye

Rapper 50 Cent has hit back at Kanye West for criticising Britney Spears' lacklustre performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, insisting the hip-hop star should not take out his anger on the troubled singer.

West recently slammed MTV's decision to let Spears open Sunday's awards ceremony ahead of himself, claiming the Toxic hitmaker was "not ready" to make her pop comeback.

But 50 Cent believes West is just jealous of all the attention Spears has been receiving.

He tells American DJ Ryan Seacrest: "(West) was upset, he's not used to being recognised. Period.

"Kanye expressed that he felt that Britney shouldn't be actually opening the show - almost like he forgot that Britney Spears sold 50 million records. She did.

"He is not thinking about her full body of work. She deserved to headline the show better than anybody else that was on it - even in the state that she is in."

Mychal Bell's conviction overturned in Jena 6 case

Posted on 18:50 by Unknown
Jena 6 update since my last posting on this topic:

Yesterday a State appeals court threw out the aggravated battery conviction of Mychal Bell, one of the half-dozen black teens facing unusually serious charges for the beating of a white schoolmate amid escalating racial tensions in a small Louisiana town. The Associated Press reports:
Mychal Bell, 17, should not have been tried as an adult, the state 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal said in tossing his conviction on aggravated battery, for which he was to have been sentenced Thursday. He could have gotten 15 years in prison.

His conspiracy conviction in the December beating of student Justin Barker was already thrown out by another court.
Bell was only 16 at the time of the beating. It occurred after a series of troubling incidents that started when black teens sat under a schoolyard tree that had traditionally been reserved for white students. In response, a group of white students hung three nooses from the tree, an act for which they were punished with a brief expulsion. Bell's attorney told the AP that he wasn't sure whether his client would get out of jail immediately or face new charges. Four other teens involved in the beating still face adult charges because they were 17 years old at the time of the fight.

The rally on the 20th of September is still due to take place, we need to educated the world and the media...

Diana Ross to Recieve Kennedy Center Honors

Posted on 07:42 by Unknown
The iconic and legendary Diana Ross has been chosen as one of five to receive a Kennedy Center Honors Award for 2007.

Considered the highest award an American artist can receive, previous recipients have included playwrights Tennessee Williams, Neil Simon and Arthur Miller, opera diva Leontyne Price, filmmaker Steven Spielberg, dance legend Martha Graham, and actors Paul Newman and Sidney Poitier.

Ms. Ross, who is one of only a few who have legitimately earned the title "legend," will be honored this year along with film director Martin Scorsese, singer-songwriter Brian Wilson, classical pianist Leon Fleisher, and writer-director- comedian Steve Martin.

"With their extraordinary talent, creativity and perseverance, the five 2007 honoree have transformed the way we, as Americans, see, hear and feel the performing arts,' said John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Stephen A. Schwarzman.

The annual awards gala on December 2 will be taped for broadcast on CBS December 26.
