Happy Leap Year

Posted on 12:12 by Unknown
WHY LEAP YEAR

Leap years are years with 366 days, instead of the usual 365. Leap years are necessary because the actual length of a year is 365.242 days, not 365 days, as commonly stated. Basically, leap years occur every 4 years, and years that are evenly divisible by 4 (2004, for example) have 366 days. This extra day is added to the calendar on February 29th.

LEAP YEAR TRADITIONS

Leap year it happens every four years when February is 29 days. it supposed to be 28. That is 29th of February. Its tradition that woman propose marriage that time of year.

According to English law, February 29th was ignored and had no legal status. Folks assumed that traditions would also have no status on that day. It was also reasoned that since the leap year day existed to fix a problem in the calendar, it could also be used to fix an old and unjust custom that only let men propose marriage.

The first documentation of this practice dates back to 1288, when Scotland passed a law that allowed women to propose marriage to the man of their choice in that year. They also made it law that any man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine. The fine could range from a kiss to payment for a silk dress or a pair of gloves.

St. Bridget's Complaint
It is believed this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose. According to legend, St. Patrick said the yearning females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.

Jackson ranch set for auction

Posted on 08:08 by Unknown
Poor Mike.. I never did tell you about the time I went to the Neverland Ranch huh?? That's another story for another day..

--------

Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch will be put up for sale at a public auction next month unless the pop star pays the £12 million he still owes on the property.

Financial Title Co. filed the notice of trustee's sale with Santa Barbara County Superior Court, setting the auction date for March 19.

If the property does go to auction, the initial asking price could be higher than the £12 million Jackson owes because of interest and other costs.

Everything from the estate's merry-go-round and other carnival rides, locomotives and sculptures, to the curtains and bath tubs would be up for sale.

Can Video Games Save The Music Industry?

Posted on 21:03 by Unknown

Music and games have been intertwined for 20 years. Can the games biz give a leg up to the struggling recording industry?

The music industry is changing, and fast. The old model based around full album consumption simply doesn't work anymore. Single track downloads grew by 53 percent in 2007 to $2.9 billion and digital sales account for 30 percent of sales in the US and 15 percent worldwide, all while CD sales continue to dive like broken Xbox 360s, falling between 10 to 20 percent in 2007. Heck, 2008 had one of the least-watched Grammy ceremonies in television history.

And yet in less than three months, Harmonix's video game Rock Band notched 2.5 million song downloads at around two bucks per -- twice as much as a regular iTunes song retails. Everyone who buys Rock Band downloads at least two songs, on average. With a little over one million copies of the game sold, that's some sexy math.

The relationship between games and music is only getting peachier: coming this June, Activision is planning to release a Guitar Hero game dedicated to Aerosmith and "celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way." Clearly, bands are taking notice of gaming's reach and influence. Here's a look at the past, present and future of the mutually beneficial relationship between music and games.

Jesse L. Martin Leaving 'Law & Order

Posted on 20:05 by Unknown
After months of speculation, it is now official that Jesse L. Martin is leaving NBC's Law & Order after nine years on the show. Sources say his character, Detective Ed Green, will be written off.

In the wake of Martin's departure, Anthony Anderson, star of Fox's freshman cop drama K-Ville, is in final talks to come on board as a new detective partnered with Jeremy Sisto's Cyrus Lupo.

Martin is expected to shoot one more episode with Anderson stepping in later this season. Although Fox has never officially pulled the plug on K-Ville, Anderson's casting in Law & Order pretty much makes that a done deal.

Martin recently finished work on the feature Peter and Vandy, and will next play Marvin Gaye in the indie biopic Sexual Healing, which also stars James Gandolfini.

Rihanna - Don't Stop The Music - VIDEO

For some reason I’m totally obsessed with this song.. (and NOT because it has the Michael Jackson’s African chant in it)

I’m talking about the kind of obsessed where you play it repeatedly and look up the lyrics so you can sing along knowledgeably and imagine yourself performing for the masses.. Know what I mean? Well maybe not, but then you know I have problems.

Anyhoo, enjoy.. And Happy Belated Birthday to Rihanna who turned 20 on Wednesday.

Andre's new clothing line - Fit for royalty...

Posted on 07:42 by Unknown
ANDRE 3000 is confident his new clothing line is so well-designed that it would have impressed late style icons Beau Brummell and British monarch Edward VIII.

Andre is launching his Benjamin Bixby line, which contains 70 pieces, ranging from wide-brimmed fedora hats to pink sweatshirts, this autumn.

And the rapper believes that Brummell, the man credited with inventing the suit in the 19th century, and Duke Of Windsor Edward VIII would love his new styles.

Andre says, "There has to be something inventive about it. But not so inventive that it's a turn-off. So that some of the greats, like Beau Brummell or the Duke of Windsor, would nod and say 'Well done.'

Kirstie Alley to start own weight loss company

Posted on 07:38 by Unknown
Weightloss queen Kirstie Alley has announced plans to launch her own diet firm, just days after resigning as the spokeswoman for U.S. company Jenny Craig.

The star who insists she had an "extraordinary" and "first rate" experience with the diet giants, hopes to launch her new venture in 2009.

Alley tells People.com, "After lengthy negotiations, regretfully, the Jenny Craig Company and I did not come to an agreement to continue as their spokesperson.

"Somehow, I've also fallen into the position of 'accidental' role model for, apparently, millions of people out there losing weight by whatever means. This was something I did not bargain for, or foresee happening. Nevertheless, it is something I've grown to embrace and something I intend to continue to pursue...

"I want to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride. I am especially passionate about seeing to it that our next generations are not struggling with the same weight issues that my generation has struggled with."

Goddam love this video, loved Bryce in this video, had me on a diet trying to pour myself into a white catsuit (didn't happen). Flashback to the BBQ days in London.

For all of you who went to the BBQ's in the UK, in the huge houses with backyards as big as parks you know what I'm talking about, we didn't go for the food!! 90% of the time there was no food, s**t London is no place for BBQing, get real.

Anyhoo, these BBQ's were literally nightclubs in peoples back yards in the summer time, yeah get on the grass and dance. DJ pumping and about a zillion people from North, East, South and West London jammed packed in the garden, dancing and drinking till the early hours. Those were the days when you'd go waaaay out to places you'd never heard of to party, just so you could experience the area and the people (guys), aaahhh good times.

Ku Klux Klan Endorses Obama???

Posted on 08:05 by Unknown
Interesting news piece I saw on one of my community groups..

-------

Anything or anyone is better than Hillary Rodham Clinton

KENTUCKY - USA - Imperial Wizard, Ronald Edwards has stated that, "anything is better than Hillary Clinton."

White Christian Supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan has endorsed Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States of America.

Speaking from his Kentucky office in Dawson Springs, the Imperial Wizard exclaimed that anything or anyone is better than having that "crazy ass bitch" as President.

This is the first time in Klan history that any member of the KKK has ever publicly supported an African American candidate for the presidency.

KKK lodges all over America have been gathering and holding rallies supporting the black presidential candidate.

KKK members in Tennessee rally against Hillary Clinton and support Barack Obama

Grand Turk Cletus Monroe has also been very vocal about the election and has donated thousands of dollars to Obama's election fund.

"The boy's gonna do it. My Klan group has donated up to $250,000 to the Obama fund. Anything is better than Hillary Clinton. Hell I'll even adopt a black kid from Africa before I vote for Hillary."

"A few years back we were lynching negroes. Now we're gonna vote for one to be president of the US of motherfu**ing A, damn it! Anyone or anything is better than Hillary Clinton - anything!!"

Placards for Barack Obama have been put up around the Klan's Headquarters and the KKK have announced a television ad campaign to support the African American candidate.

Price, who is 5ft 7in, said her 4ft 8in husband’s height was no problem: “That doesn’t really matter to me. He was 10 feet tall to me because he was sweet and I really liked his personality.”

Glamour Fest

Posted on 07:16 by Unknown
To coincide with the release of the March "Hollywood" issue, Glamour magazine is launching glamourfilmfest.tv, an online film festival of short independent films by women, for women.

Sponsored by Avon, the site features a variety of categories including U.S. Cinema, International, Animation and Documentary. Each week a new film will debut in each of the four categories. Actresses like Christina Ricci, Maria Bello, and Elizabeth Banks will each name their favorite shorts during the online film festival, which will run through March 7. And no film festival would be complete without swag; the first 500 visitors to the site will be gifted with a basket of goodies from Avon.

This launch marks a return to Glamour's Hollywood roots. When the magazine made its debut in 1939 it was Glamour of Hollywood, a fashion tome devoted to getting the movie star look.

The March issue features Naomi Watts on the cover and celebrates women in all aspects of film. Not only are they covering the starlets and the designers who dress them, but stories include insight into the lives of powerful female movie executives, with tips from Polly Cohen, the president of Warner Independent Pictures, and Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce, and a list of the greatest movie lines by actresses. Glamour's commitment to women in film transcends the pages and usual best dressed, the Glamour Reel Moments initiative, a short film series based on moments in readers' lives, which has given women the chance to direct in a male dominated arena. The program has given the Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson their directorial debuts.

The Little Red Hen

Posted on 15:08 by Unknown
A little something I thought I'd share with you..

I grew up with this story, not because it was a classic children's book, but because of what the story meant and the moral.

The last few days have been crazy preparing for this weekend (Grammy's) and especially yesterday, I felt like the little Red hen.

I don't think I need to go into too much detail since you get this jist.

Sooo, a treat for all of you who haven't heard this story for years, for those who appreciate the real meaning of the tale. Enjoy. ---

One day as the Little Red Hen was scratching in a field, she found a grain of wheat.

"This wheat should be planted," she said. "Who will plant this grain of wheat?"

"Not I," said the Duck.

"Not I," said the Cat.

"Not I," said the Dog.

"Then I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.

Soon the wheat grew to be tall and yellow.

"The wheat is ripe," said the Little Red Hen. "Who will cut the wheat?"

"Not I," said the Duck.

"Not I," said the Cat.

"Not I," said the Dog.

"Then I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.

When the wheat was cut, the Little Red Hen said, "Who will thresh the wheat?"

"Not I," said the Duck.

"Not I," said the Cat.

"Not I," said the Dog.

"Then I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.

When the wheat was threshed, the Little Red Hen said, "Who will take this wheat to the mill?"

"Not I," said the Duck.

"Not I," said the Cat.

"Not I," said the Dog.

"Then I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.

She took the wheat to the mill and had it ground into flour. Then she said, "Who will make this flour into bread?"

"Not I," said the Duck.

"Not I," said the Cat.

"Not I," said the Dog.

"Then I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.

She made and baked the bread. Then she said, "Who will eat this bread?"

"Oh! I will," said the Duck.

"And I will," said the Cat.

"And I will," said the Dog.

"No, No!" said the Little Red Hen. "I will do that." And she did.

No "color" on the Runway???

Posted on 07:16 by Unknown
Interesting article, my friends and I had actually had a discussion about this a while ago..

"What happened to all the black people on the runway?" asked model Tyson Beckford
, who attended several shows at New York Fashion Week. "There are no blacks on the cats."

Naomi Campbell put it another way: "Women of color are not a trend. That's the bottom line."

And while Campbell wasn't invited to the shows this week and didn't attend, the supermodel may have been on to something. It seems that while the fashion industry was worrying about how skinny models were, it was neglecting another problem: how white they were. There were drops of color here and there, but with the exception of a couple of shows, the runways were lined with pallid, bony bodies.

"There used to be myself, Naomi Campbell,Veronica Webb, Tyra Banks," Beckford said. "There used to be a lot of us out there, but today a lot of the designers just aren't catering to black people."

In truth, this Fashion Week looked like about as diverse — or homogenous — as many before it. But if ever there should have been more people of color on the runway, the time was now.

MTV President to step down

Posted on 06:27 by Unknown
MTV president Christina Norman has decided to exit the company at the end of the month, according to a MTV representative.

Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music and Logo Group, sent an internal memo to MTV staffers on Thursday letting them know of Norman's decision "to take the time to explore something new." Norman, a 17 year veteran of the network, has helmed MTV since May 2005 and was responsible for the day-to-day leadership, strategy and management of MTV.

Prior to MTV she was president of VH1 and was credited with re-energizing VH1's on-air design and overall creative direction amid a strong ratings run for the channel when she left in post in 2005. There was no word on her replacement. Toffler will assume day-to-day responsibilities in the interim.

Vanity Fair cancels annual Oscar party

Posted on 06:38 by Unknown

What no Vanity Fair party this year???

---

Vanity Fair announced yesterday that they've canceled their annual Academy Awards party.

"After much consideration, and in support of the writers and everyone else affected by this strike, we have decided that this is not the appropriate year to hold our annual Oscar party," said a statement posted on VanityFair.com.

"We want to congratulate all of this year's nominees and we look forward to hosting our 15th Oscar party next year," the magazine said.

The annual post-Oscar soiree often lures more luminaries than the ceremony itself. The night's big winners and nominees typically turn out, along with A-listers including Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, Cher, Sean Penn, Joni Mitchell and Al Gore.

The Feb. 24 party was scrapped even though the writers guild is said to be on track for a possible deal with studios, possibly as soon as this week.

Flavor Flav stars in MyNetworkTV's first sitcom

Posted on 06:34 by Unknown
MyNetworkTV is returning to the scripted arena with a new half-hour comedy series starring Flavor Flav.

The network has ordered 13 episodes of "Under One Roof," a show that network president Greg Meidel describes as "a classic fish-out-of-water story."

Flav plays Calvester Hill, a former convict who moves in with his wealthy, conservative brother, Walter (Kelly Perine - remember him from One on One??). Calvester turns the Hill family's life upside down, parading his old prison cronies through the house, teaching his nephew to be a gangsta rapper and butting heads with Walter's snooty wife.

"Roof" is directed by Brian Roberts and written by Danielle Quarles and Gelila Asres, non-Writers Guild of America writers. The show is in production in Toronto for a spring debut.

Victoria Beckham: I split up the band.. because I wanted to be a fashion designer

Posted on 07:15 by Unknown
VICTORIA Beckham has revealed SHE was the reason the Spice Girls' suddenly split— because she plans to quit the music business for good.Posh has decided to become a full-time fashion designer and says she will NEVER sing with pals Mel B, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel C again.

Talking exclusively to the News of the World, Posh admitted that she only agreed to a Spice reunion for sons Brooklyn, eight, Romeo, five, and two-year-old Cruz.

"I was very nervous about going back into the Spice Girls because I didn't want to send out a confused message," she admitted.

"The reason I decided to do the tour was to show my kids that mummy was a pop star once.

"I've been thinking about this for a long time. I'm not in the music industry any more. I'm in the fashion industry.

"I'm putting together a team of people now so it will be my main project when I finish this tour in a month.

"It's the last opportunity there will be to see the Spice Girls together."

Writer Strike nearing and end??

Posted on 07:07 by Unknown
The ongoing Hollywood writers strike is nearing a resolution after negotiations between union officials and studio bosses resulted in draft contracts being passed between both sides.

The strikes have crippled the U.S. film and TV industry with many movie projects being put on hold indefinitely and several hit shows including Desperate Housewives being suspended.

But it is now reported that WGA officials and film bosses have sketched the outline of an agreement on how much writers will be paid for Internet broadcasting of their work.

Bill Cosby To Put Out Rap Album

Posted on 05:58 by Unknown
Thanks for forwarding this over Lila.. Really have no comment, I love Bill too much..

Bill Cosby - a staunch critic of some rap music - is set to release a Hip-Hop album called State of Emergency, which will be a sanitized, issue-oriented CD.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that the actor, comedian and philanthropist will address issues like proper parenting, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, Black-on-Black crime and the dropout rate in America’s high schools.

Cosby’s album will not contain any profane language, nor will it offer any denigrating comments towards women.

State of Emergency would be the 35th album for the legendary comedian, actor, who released his first album Bill Cosby is a Very Funny Fellow in 1963.
